Good Morning All
Day 4 Dry January 2021 - How are you? How was Day 3? I hope you managed to watch my 'Live' on my 'Your Sober Coach' Facebook page - if you haven't managed to watch please try as I'm sure you'll find them helpful & motivating. I'll be 'live' very morning at 9am throughout January. Go & take a look!
Here's a recap of what I mentioned yesterday - get yourself a notebook if you haven't already. Write down your reason or reasons for doing Dry January. In this notebook write how you're feeling each day, what you're finding hard, what you're finding easy, what new drinks you've tried which do you prefer? How did you sleep - sleep for me for the first 5 days was always broken, the dreams were vivid, I promise you it will get better by Week 2 you'll be sleeping like a baby! Your Notebook gives you a chance to reflect. You can also use it to note how you're feeling each day - this is important & enables you to stay focussed.
Distraction & breaking habits/routines is soooooo important. I can't emphasise this enough. Distract, Distract, Distract - find stuff to do - if you're a Domestic Goddess - get cleaning out those cupboards, start the decluttering that you've been wanting to do for ages. I'm not Domestic Goddess so this idea is hell to me!!!
Stuff to try: Online Crosswords, Online Jigsaws (these a fab!), Sudoku, Cooking (Batch Cooking - takes up time & is practical especially if you associate drinking whilst cooking) Take up Running (Couch to 5K app is really good if you're a beginner) Knitting (there are loads of online tutorials on YouTube) Netflix - watch the Box Sets that you've been meaning to watch for an age.......what else would you like to try? learn?
Day 4 (TODAY)
Make sure you've got the support of your family & friends - this is so important as your first week passes - are you all doing Dry January in your house? it makes it so much easier if you are. Eliminate any temptations to drink. Let everyone in your Tribe know what you're trying to achieve & how important it is to you! Be proud & shout loud!!!!
When it's Dry January it's so much easier to use this as 'your reason' no one will think anything of it. There's no stigma & you really don't need to worry about what others think!!
Think about how you want your nearest & dearest to support you & ASK THEM. Let them know how they can help you! Write it down. Get them onboard. If they love & care about you they will give you their full support.
When you give up drinking it often highlights other's demons about their own drinking. I will write about this in another post later in the month.
For now WORRY NOT about what others think of you - Just Keep Going...... I've got your back x
