If Your Dreams Don't Scare You They're Too Small........
I read this morning that yesterday was known as 'Blue Monday' it's all about feeling like you're in a rut what with January, cold weather, lockdown, working not working, home schooling the list is endless.
What they were saying in the article I was reading is that it's important to 'have a plan' (something I often mention during Dry January). The Plan centres on doing something every day which relates to each of these 5 key areas:- Health, Socialising, Work, Relaxing & Creativity. As I read the '5' I found myself nodding in agreement with all of them. The Plan gives you something to focus on instead of getting bogged down with analysing your emotions. Yes, that sounds good, it sure does!
'A Road Map to looking after Ourselves'
1. Health: This could be eating a banana, going for a walk/jog, doing yoga, trying online boxing. Why it works: it releases the endorphins 'feeling good' chemicals in the brain. A mood booster makes us feel more positive.
2. Work: Doesn't necessarily mean going to work. It could be housework, cooking, shopping. Why it work: gives a sense of purpose. A sense of identity. If you enjoy your work it can give you a really important sense of self esteem.
3. Creativity: This could be learning to draw, writing a journal, creating a mood board, painting, writing. Why it works: allows us to do something enjoyable. Self expression is important for wellbeing. Fun without constraint.
4. Socialising: This could be phoning a friend, attending a zoom quiz, going on a 'socially distanced' walk. Why it works: connection is a source of comfort. Conversations create connection.
5. Relaxing: This could be reading a book, relaxing in the bath, lighting a candle & meditating, watching TV or a film. Why it works: relaxing is a form of self care. Protecting time for yourself where you can recharge & soothe. It allows you to unburden parts of yourself that are overstretched or heavily burdened.
I personally think that these 5 points are sound advice. There are just a few examples of what you could do, there are so many more under each heading. Dig deep & think of things you would like to do. This is your time let's keep ourselves out of the rut & away from any Blue Days.
